You Never Even Called Me By My Name
Here we are in 2022, still talking about people doing the same damn thing. Every time that I turn around, another artist is rising up saying that they are not the same as everyone else. They claim they are the “real country,” a revival if you will. While this is a great way to get your followers going, stop focusing on the marketing plan and start focusing on bettering yourself as a songwriter. These same guys talk about how country has become boring, then turn around and write another song that starts with “I like beer more than I like trucks.” – I went to pick her up in the rain.
As a consumer, stop being dumb and start to ask more of the people you support. Stop getting sucked into the algorithm just because they are doing something that gets your attention. These people would rather be famous than be a musician and an actual artist. The only thing I ask of everyone is to sit by yourself and spend some time with the music you are listening to. Don’t consider it background music, consider it a piece of art that you can analyze from the top down. When you spend some time with it, it will become something more than a gimmick. This also goes out to “artists.” Most don’t spend time with their own music. They’ve been taught that it’s to get them rich and famous rather than to express what they are feeling. Go ahead and name drop Waylon one more time without understanding the actual meaning of “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?”
